Saturday Battle With Wichita Features Maroon Out, Fan Events
SPRINGFIELD -- Senior weekend at Missouri State is taking on a personality of its own with several student and fan events surrounding the Bears' game against Wichita State on Saturday as well as the two Lady Bears' games on Friday and Sunday.
A student pep rally will take place Friday at Plaster Student Union from Noon to 1 p.m., featuring cover band Audio Airway, head coaches Cuonzo Martin and Nyla Milleson, select players, cheerleaders, Sugar Bears and prize give-aways. As always, students, faculty and fans are encouraged to wear their Missouri State team apparel on BearWear Friday to show support for their teams and the university.
On Friday night, the Lady Bears take on Drake on Fan Appreciation Night at JQH Arena, starting at 7:05 p.m. Free admission vouchers are available at a number of Springfield-area retailers, as well as the JQH Arena Box Office.
Saturday's regular-season finale at JQH Arena against fellow MVC front runner Wichita State is the biggest men's basketball game in recent memory at Missouri State. The day will begin with a fan fest outside JQH Arena at 9:45 a.m. with Audio Airway and a number of MSU's all-time greats on hand to get tailgaters and fans fired up before the gates open at 10:30 a.m. The Senior Day match-up with the Shockers tips at 12:02 p.m. on ESPN2.
There will be a number of gate give-aways for Saturday's game, including 4,500 Glow Sticks, courtesy of Penmac and game sponsor KTXR; Senior Day picture cards for the first 5,000 fans, courtesy of Hiland Dairy and Subway; and State Farm/MVC scroll banners for the first 500 students. Maroon t-shirts will also be available for the first 300 Maroon Madness members, random students and available for purchase at the JQH Arena BearWear Team Store.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early for Saturday's game and bring an unprecedented spirit and atmosphere to JQH Arena.
Finally, on Sunday, the Lady Bears will celebrate their Senior Day with a Noon tipoff against Creighton on FS Midwest in their annual WBCA Pink Zone game. National country recording artist Candy Coburn will sing the National Anthem and perform at halftime, while the first 900 fans receive a Pink Zone t-shirt, courtesy of Verizon Wireless. Money collected at the game will support cancer research through the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks.
