Missouri State Chips Away at Early Deficit, Down 6 at the Break
SPRINGFIELD – For just the seventh time this season, Missouri State finds itself trailing at the half as visiting Creighton has knocked down four three-pointers to take a 35-29 lead into the intermission at JQH Arena.
The Bears were led by Kyle Weems who scored the team's first 11 points. He finished the half with 13 points in all.
CU climbed out to a 12-point lead just over 11 minutes into the game on a three-pointer by Antoine Young at the 8:45 mark. From there, MSU began to chip away, as Caleb Patterson threw down a one-handed dunk and a short jumper. Later, Jermaine Mallett cut the deficit to four points twice, scoring all four of his free throw attempts in the final 2:36. Mallett finished with 8 points in the first 20 minutes
The Bluejays out-rebounded the Bears 17-16 and shot 48 percent (14-for-29) and 4-of-9 (.444) from three-point range. 20 of Creighton's 35 points have been scored in the paint.
Missouri State was 12-for-31 (.387) due to a slow shooting start and made 1-of-6 (.167) from beyond the arc.
Cuonzo Martin's squad is trying to avoid a second straight conference defeat and keep its 18-game winning streak at JQH Arena intact.
