Missouri State Senior Jermaine Mallett Earns "Dunk of the Year" Nominee
Voting Open at www.Facebook.com/DunksoftheYear Until January 23 at 11:59 pm ET CHICAGO - Missouri State University guard Jermaine Mallett's (Jackson, Miss.) baseline tomahawk jam against Central Arkansas on Dec. 4 was selected as a 2011 Dunk of the Year nominee, announced today by sports television production and event marketing company Intersport. The 2011 Dunk of the Year is wholly determined by fan voting and will be announced on a one-hour "Dunks of the Year" special airing on ABC April 2. Each week for eight weeks, four incredible college dunk videos are released at the Dunks of the Year fan page on Facebook (www.facebook.com/dunksoftheyear). The top weekly vote-getters proceed to the Finals, which tip off March 7, and are highlighted within the ABC special. Mallett's dunk - in which he beat a defender baseline and threw down a powerful tomahawk slam - is competing against three other dunkers in week two, including Jordan Hamilton (Texas), Justin Hurtt (Tulsa), and Derrick Williams (Arizona). The week one winner was a thunderous posterization by High Point guard Shay Shine. To support Mallett, fans can vote once a day and share their vote with their Facebook friends. Week two voting is open until Sunday, January 23 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Missouri State (15-3, 7-0 MVC) continues Missouri Valley Conference play at Indiana State on Wednesday at 6:05 p.m. before hosting Creighton at 4 p.m. Saturday in a nationally-televised game on ESPN2. Tickets for the Creighton game, and all future home games, can be purchased at www.MissouriStateTix.com or by calling (417) 836-7678.
