Bears Trail Bulldogs by a Bunch in Des Moines at the Half
DES MOINES, Iowa -- Drake has made 21-of-31 (.677) field goals and connected on eight three-pointers to take a commanding 51-29 lead inter the intermission here in Missouri Valley Conference play.
The Bears are 0-for-8 from three-point range and found themselves down 12-0 right out of the gate as the homestanding Bulldogs made their first five treys and 13 of their first 15 shots overall.
Missouri State's deficit grew to 22 points midway through the first half on a three-pointer by Aaron Hawley midway through the opening period. The Bears, who were 9-for-9 at the free throw line, got a pair of charity shots from Nafis Ricks with 2:28 to go to make cut it to 43-24.
Drake drained a trey by Ryan Wedel with 23 ticks left in the half to extends its advantage to 23 points again, 51-29, and the Bears, who shot .357 (10-for-28) found themselves down by a bunch going into the break.
Caleb Patterson scored 12 points for MSU to lead all scorers, while Ricks has seven points, both off the bench.
Wedel and Josh Young each have 10 points for Drake which was 8-for-11 (.727) from three.
Drake outrebounded the Bears 16-14 and committed just two turnovers to four by the Bears.
