Missouri State Holds Narrow 38-36 Halftime Lead Over Visiting Illinois State
SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State has 14 first-half points from senior Jermaine Mallett and holds a narrow, 38-36 lead over visiting Illinois State here in Missouri Valley conference play.
The Bears (9-3, 1-0) built a 37-25 lead on a Mallett break-away dunk at the 2:54 mark before the Redbirds ended the half on an 11-1 run. The ISU run included four points from Jackie Carmichael who was 6-for-8 from the field with a team-high 4 rebounds and 12 points.
The Bears also got 10 points from Adam Leonard, including a pair of three-pointers, to help MSU's cause.
Missouri State was 12-for-27 (.444) from the field, 5-for-11 (.455) beyond the arc and 9-for-12 (.750) at the line while being out-rebounded 14-13.
Illinois State, which also got 14 points from Anthony Cousin, was 15-for-22 (.682), 2-for-3 (.667) from three-point range, and was 4-of-7 (.571) from the foul line.
Missouri State is defending a 15-game home-court winning streak, the 10th longest active streak in Division I.
