Background

Kirk was a three-year start for the Kickapoo Chiefs of coach Roy Green after Kyle's family moved to Springfield at the start of his sophomore year. He played his freshman season on the varsity at Fort Zumwalt West High in St. Charles, Mo., where Coach Ron Twitchell's club posted the best record in school history at 24-3 and claimed a conference title. Kirk averaged 14.5 points and eight rebounds a game to get all-conference, all-district and St. Louis all-metro honors. At Kickapoo as a sophomore, Kirk averaged 13.3 points and seven rebounds a game to win all-conference and all-district laurels as KHS won league and district championships in a 24-6 season.Kirk hiked his numbers to 15.6 points and six rebounds a game as a junior. KHS won the Ozark Conference and district titles and finished third in the state. Kirk repeated his conference and district laurels and gained all-state selection from both the state's coaches' organization and the state sportswriters and sportscaster. He was also on the all-tourney team at the Bass Pro Tournament of Champions as KHS won the team title. As a senior for the Chiefs, he led KHS to a 27-6 record and a state runner-up finish, repeating all his honors as he averaged 18.0 points a game. He finished his career with a KHS record 1,431 points and his four high school teams, counting his freshman season at Fort Zumwalt West, combined for a 104-16 record and a spotless 40-0 mark with four titles in conference play.
