At Missouri State
Matt King joined the basketball Bears as part of the 2005-06 freshman group at Missouri State last year. He practiced with the ballclub all year as a redshirt member of the roster, and, like fellow redshirt Justin Fuehrmeyer, King will bid to work into the playing rotation during the coming campaign. King is also working on his physical development and he will bid to find a spot in the inside mix for the Bears as 2006-07 gets under way.
King came to Springfield and Missouri State from Leavenworth (Kan.) High School where he played for the Pioneers of coach Larry Hogan in the Sunflower League of eastern Kansas. A starting forward for the Pioneers, King won first team all-tournament honors for the Coffeyville Tournament and was also named the Most Inspirational player in the Coffeyville meet. He was also named to the academic all-state first team in Kansas during his senior season.
Matthew Bryant King was born August 17, 1986, in Merriam, Kansas, the son of Bryant and Sally King. He is interested in an academic major of cell and molecular sciences at Missouri State and plans to become a physical therapist.
