Gordon Selected for Cape Cod League All-Star Game
July 23, 2012
HYANNIS, Mass. - For the fifth consecutive year, Missouri State will be represented in the showcase game of the nation's most prestigious collegiate baseball league, as senior-to-be Grant Gordon has been named to the East Division roster for the 2012 Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game scheduled for Saturday, July 28, at Whitehouse Field in Harwich, Mass.
A reliever for the Harwich Mariners, Gordon has been nearly unhittable this summer, sporting a 1-0 record and 0.50 earned run average in 12 appearances for the East Division leaders. The right-hander has posted 26 strikeouts versus just four walks over 18.0 innings, allowing just one earned run altogether.
Gordon was one of the Bears' most effective options out of the bullpen in 2012, finishing the season with a 6-3 mark with a save to go along with a 3.28 ERA in 19 outings. The Salem, Mo., native will enter his final collegiate season already entrenched among the program's all-time leaders in saves (8) and appearances (57) and just seven victories (13) away from cracking the Bears' top 10 for career wins.
Gordon becomes the fifth Bear in as many summers to earn a Cape Cod League All-Star Game roster spot. In 2008, Buddy Baumann was the winning pitcher for the East squad, and Aaron Meade was an all-star the following year. Kevin Medrano started at second base for the West Division All-Stars in the 2010, before Luke Voit earned a spot on the East Division club last summer.
Fox College Sports will televise the 2012 Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game nationally, beginning at 6 p.m. (Eastern).
