July 21, 2014
WEST YARMOUTH, Mass. - For the sixth time in seven years, Missouri State will be represented in the showcase game of the nation's most prestigious collegiate baseball league, as junior pitcher Matt Hall has been named to the West Division roster for the 2014 Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game scheduled for Sunday, July 27, at Doran Park, home of the Bourne Braves.
A starting pitcher for the Falmouth Commodores, Hall has logged a 3-0 record and the fifth-best earned run average in the Cape League (1.67) in seven appearances this summer. The left-hander also ranks second among all CCBL pitchers with 40 strikeouts and has issued just nine walks in his 37.2 innings pitched.
Hall is coming off a strong finish to his sophomore season at MSU, as the Lee's Summit, Mo., native allowed just one run while fanning 14 hitters over his last three outings spanning 13.0 innings. Overall, he recorded a 2-4 mound mark to go along with a 4.02 ERA in 16 appearances, including 10 starts, and struck out 51 batters in his 65.0 innings of work for the Bears in 2014.
Hall continues Missouri State's recent string of success in the Cape, marking the sixth time in seven seasons a Bear has been picked for a CCBL all-star roster. In 2008, Buddy Baumann was the winning pitcher for the East squad, and Aaron Meade was an all-star the following year. Kevin Medrano started at second base for the West Division All-Stars in the 2010, before Luke Voit earned a spot on the East Division club in 2011 and Grant Gordon was chosen for the 2012 CCBL All-Star Game.
Fox College Sports will televise the 2014 Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game nationally, beginning at 6:05 p.m. (Eastern).
