White Team Squares Fall Series With 9-3 Game 4 Victory
Oct. 12, 2012
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Led by Conner Wilson's four hits, the White team scored seven times over the first five innings and cruised to a 9-3 victory in the fourth game of Missouri State's annual Fall World Series Thursday at Hammons Field.
Wilson paced a 16-hit attack for the White team by going 4-for-5 with a double. Derek Locascio added three hits, including a second-inning home run, and scored twice to help the White squad even the series at two games apiece.
After Locascio's solo shot off freshman lefty Matt Hall in the second put the White team on top 1-0, Matt Dezort kicked off the key rally the next inning with a one-out single, followed by a steal of second. Next, Wilson, Spencer Johnson and Patrick Drake delivered run-scoring singles to make it a 4-0 contest.
Johnson struck again in the fourth, driving in his second run of the day with an RBI single that plated Dylan Becker, who led off the inning with a base hit.
The White squad put the game on ice with two-spots in both the fifth and eighth innings. Locascio singled and swiped second, then trotted home on Eric Cheray's base hit. Becker then plated Cheray with an RBI hit of his own.
Wilson and Cheray came through with run-producing hits again in the eighth against Tyler Burgess. After a Drake single and a walk, Wilson doubled in the White team's eighth run, then came around on Cheray's second RBI single of the game.
Tyler Thompson earned the win with a strong start for the White team. The junior right-hander worked four scoreless innings, scattering four hits while striking out three Maroon hitters.
In addition to big days for Wilson and Locascio, Cheray, Becker, Johnson and Drake each posted two-hit performances for the White team.
The Maroon squad was led by Koby Peebles, who went 3-for-5, with a double and two runs scored.
The series continues next Wednesday (Oct. 18) at Hammons Field, with Game 5 at 3 p.m., and Game 6 will follow on Thursday at 10 a.m.
