2009: Modglin saw action as both a pitcher and hitter as a freshman, throwing seven innings in four appearances and logging 20 at bats as a pinch hitter and DH ... On the mound, Modglin had a 7.71 ERA and four strikeouts, while he drove in five runs at the plate ... Started the Bears' third game of the year on the hill, allowing an earned run and fanning three in 3.1 innings at Middle Tennessee (2/22) ... Threw a scoreless frame at Arkansas State (4/15) ... In leading Scott City High to a state championship in 2008, Modglin set school records for batting average, home runs and slugging percentage, hitting .622 with 47 RBIs, 48 runs, 10 homers, 10 doubles, four triples, 12 stolen bases and a 1.270 slugging average in only 24 games ... In addition to his exploits at the plate, Modglin was 8-1 with a 0.24 ERA and 109 strikeouts in 58 innings on the mound ... He was voted all-state by the coaches and the media, Southeast Missouri Player of the Year and conference POY as a senior ...
