At Missouri State: Ben Carlson underwent successful elbow surgery in the offseason and will be able to play in the field this year at first base after an all-American sophomore season where he was limited to the DH role.

2008: Carlson became MSU's first baseball player to reach all-America status both athletically and academically in 2008, despite playing the year with a damaged left elbow that required surgery, earning first-team all-America honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association and a third-team spot on the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America squad ... Was also first-team ABCA all-region and first-team academic all-district ... On the conference level, Carlson was named to both the all-MVC and MVC Scholar-Athlete first teams ...
