Background: Bean spent the 2008 season, his first as a collegian, at Allen County Community College in Iola, Kan., after enjoying a standout career at Seaman High in Topeka, Kan., where he was a teammate of former Bear Ben Carlson ... At Allen County, Bean pitched himself to all-conference honors, going 5-0 with a 3.14 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 41 innings ... As a three-year letterman for coach Steve Bushnell at Seaman High, Bean's teams combined to go 65-8, won a state title his junior season and finished runner-up at the state tournament his senior season ...
