• Spent the 2008 and 2009 seasons at Northeast Texas Community College and redshirted at Southeastern Louisiana in 2007
• At NTCC, went 4-4 with a 4.68 ERA and 79 strikeouts as a freshman, and 3-2 with a 3.12 ERA and 48:6 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 43 innings as a sophomore
• As a prep at Crescent City High School in Metairie, La., struck out 146 hitters in 68 innings his senior year, going 9-1 with two saves and a 0.98 ERA
• Hit .334 that year and earned all-state, all-metro and district MVP honors
• Summer baseball achievements include going 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA in 2010 and 5-0 with a 1.71 ERA in 2009 with the Sedalia Bombers, and 6-1 with a 2.68 ERA in 2008 with the Chillicothe Mudcats, all of the MINK League
