Missouri State sophomore earned the Bears' fifth weekly honor of the 2012-13 season

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Missouri State men's swimming & diving program continues to rake in the Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week accolades. On Wednesday (Dec. 19), the league announced sophomore Matthew Wilson as the latest recipient of the weekly honor, bringing the Bears' total to five on the season.
Wilson had a breakout performance on the final day of the UIW Christmas Invitational on Monday (Dec. 17). Highlighting the sophomore's weekend in San Antonio was a runner-up finish in the 200 butterfly.
The West Monroe, La. native made it back to finals in all four of his individual events, including two A-Final appearances.
On the second day of competition, Wilson doubled up on individual events and swam the 100 fly and 100 back. He finished seventh in the 100 fly and 11th overall in the 100 back.
Wilson saved his best performance for the final day, shaving 1.73 seconds off his season best in the 200 fly. He was runner-up in the event and came within .29 seconds of TCU's Luiz Azarias for the win. His time of 1:49.70 came was just a few tenths shy of his lifetime best and vaulted him into the No. 2 spot in the MAC rankings.
