ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- After finishing the weekend as one of the Bears' top performers at the University of Incarnate Word Christmas Invitational, senior Andrea Uzcategui has been named Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week, the league announced Tuesday (Dec. 18).
Uzcategui joins Anna Ahlin, Suzanne Van Rensburg and Renata Sander on the running list of MSU swimmers to have received the Valley weekly award.
The Caracas, Venezuela native was a key contributor outside of her individual events, swimming on Missouri State's A-Relay for the 200 free, 400 medley, 800 free and 400 free relays.
Individually, she started the meet off by making it back to finals in the 50 free. She was Missouri State's top finisher in the event and placed 20th overall with her time of 24.81. On Sunday, she doubled up with two individual events, swimming in the preliminaries of the 100 fly (25th), paired with a D-Final appearance in the 200 free.
Uzcategui saved her top swim for the final day of competition. She qualified for the B-Final in the 100 free (53.05) and moved up three spots to 12th place during the last session of the UIW Christmas Invitational.
