MSU Swimming and Diving Teams in first place at Delta State Christmas Invitational
The Missouri State swimming and diving teams remain in first place after two days of competition at the Delta State Christmas Invitational in Cleveland, Miss. The men top three teams with a score of 752 and the women have outscored four teams totaling 670. Senior Ignacio Gayo and junior Victor Serra were multi-event winners on the first day of competition. Serra swan the second leg and Gayo the anchor leg of the 400 medley relay to help lead their team to a first place finish with a time of 3:23.55. Serra claimed first in the 200 individual medley touching the wall at 1:50.85. Gayo clocked a time of 20.85 in the 50 free race taking first, with teammate Ciro Sauaia following close behind taking second. Continuing their dominance in the relays the men swim Bears captured a first place finish in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:24.31. On the one meter board Eric Ducourneau claimed first place with a total score of 286.72 on the mens side while Chelsea Ray took first in the women’s competition with a score of 212.10. Ducourneau also claimed first in the 3 meter competition. Frannie Moody, Breanna Hollar, Jordan Hawkins, and Matana Wellman combined for a time of 1:37.93 in the 200 free relay to take first. Eduardo Pajares claimed the 400 individual medley race and Serra earned first in the 100 fly to begin the second day of competition. The Bears captured victories in the 100 breast and 100 back in the men’s competition finishing day two. The Missouri State swimming/diving teams will conclude action at the Delta State Christmas Invitational Monday, Dec. 17. Competition is set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
