MSU Swim Teams finish Third at UALR Christmas Invite
The Missouri State University men’s and women’s swimming team captured two third place finishes at the conclusion of the UALR Christmas Invitational in Little Rock, Arkansas. The MSU men tallied 558 in the two-day competition with the women totalling 674. Drury claimed first on the women’s side with Western Kentucky taking second. On the men’s side University of Missouri Rolla took first and Drury caputured second.
Teammates Nicolas Villarroel, Roko Simunic, Victor Serra, and Ignacio Gayo continued their dominance in the relays, taking home first place in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:32.55. Villarroel added a third place finish in the 100 back clocking a time of 51.46.
Serra outswam 23 competitors to claim first place in the 200 butterfly. The junior from Valencia, Spain has continued to show his dominance in the fly comepeitions throughout the season.
Gayo placed third in the 100 free touching the wall at 45.92, while Eduardo Pajares claimed second with a time of 1:53.56 in the 200 individual medley.
The men ended the meet with a fourth place finish in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:05.80
In women’s compeition, Missouri State’s Jordan Hawkins earned fourth in the 100 back and a seventh place finish in the 100 free.
Indira Villarroel, Fran Moody, Chelsea Dirks-Ham, and Matana Wellman competed in the 200 yard medley relay and earned a fifth place finish with a time of 1:52.73. Andi Rojas-Jimenz swam the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:11.81, good enough for fourth.
Sophomore Breanna Hollar finished sixth in the 200 free with a time of 1:59.95.Teammate Wellman finished right behind her in seventh touching the wall at 1:59.95. Hollar also captured second in the 200 fly.
The Bears swimming and diving teams will be back in action when the compete in the Annual Delta State Invitational in Cleveland, Miss. Saturday, Dec. 15-Monday, Dec. 17. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
