Ahlin Named MVC Swimmer of the Week
Nov. 26, 2013
ST. LOUIS - Missouri State senior Anna Ahlin has been named Missouri Valley Conference Co-Swimmer of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Ahlin led the Bears to a third-place finish in the TYR Invitational, hosted by Northwestern, this weekend.
Ahlin helped the Bears win the 400-yard medley relay on the first day of the championship-style meet Friday in 3:46.42. The Stockholm, Sweden, native, who had not been in the pool for over a month due to injury, swam the leadoff leg of the race - the 100 back - and went under the NCAA's `B' cut for the event in 54.94. She later finished second in the 100 backstroke finals, lowering her NCAA consideration time to 54.83.
Ahlin also was fourth in the 50-yard free finals in 23.75. Finally, Ahlin swam the first leg of the 200-medley relay, in which the Bears finished in 1:41.50. The time would have won the event and been a pool and school record, but MSU was disqualified as the final swimmer left slightly early.
The weekly honor, which she shares with Evansville's Michelle Tipton, is the third of Ahlin's career. She was also named MVC Swimmer of the Week on Nov. 1, 2011 and Oct. 16, 2012.
Missouri State returns to action against TCU in Jenks, Okla., to begin a two-day meet on Dec. 14 at 4 p.m.
