EVANSTON, Ill. - The Missouri State swimming & diving team returns to action after a week-long break to the TYR Invitational at Northwestern's Norris Aquatics Center Friday.
The Bears will compete against men's and women's teams from host NU, Michigan State, Illinois Chicago, North Dakota, Division II Truman State and Division III Kenyon. The Bowling Green women's team will also be at the meet.
Action begins at 9 a.m. Friday through Sunday with prelims while finals get underway at 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m., Sunday in a championship-style meet.
The Truman State women enter the weekend ranked No. 13 and the men are receiving votes in the latest CSCAA Division II polls. Kenyon is Nos. 2 and 3 in Division III men's and women's competition, respectively.
For the second straight week the MSU men's team is ranked in USA Swimming's Division I Championship Mock Scoring rankings, the Bears come in at No. 17 this week with 56 points after being No. 26 a week ago.
The Missouri State men come into the weekend ranked No. 11 in the first CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major Top 50 poll, announced Thursday. The Bears earned 756.44 points in the poll. Princeton topped the poll with 892.81 points.
Junior Paul Le owns four times which put him in the 50 in the country in individual events. He has the seventh best 200 backstroke (1:45.61, versus Southern Illinois), the eighth best 100 back (48.05, versus Missouri), the 25th best 50 freestyle (20.35, versus Evansville) and the 42nd best 100 butterfly (48.97, versus Evansville).
Sophomores Miguel Davila and Isaac Springer also have top-50 times in the nation. Davila boasts the 27th best 1,000 free (9:17.91) set against Missouri and Springer has the 34th best 100 breaststroke (55.89) set against Evansville.
Seniors Anna Ahlin and Renata Sander and sophomore Dora Kiss all have the top times in the Missouri Valley Conference in individual events so far this season. Kiss has the Valley's top times in the 200 fly (2:03.78) and 400 IM (4:31.23), while Ahlin has the best 100 back at 57.16. Sander owns the top 100 breaststroke time of 1:04.42.
The quartet of sophomore Emily Chesser, Sander, sophomore Ibby Simcox and junior Shannon Myer have posted the best 400 medley relay time in the conference of 3:54.46.
