Nov. 7, 2012
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- For the third consecutive week, Missouri State has collected the Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week award, as the league announced junior Colin Hill as its honoree on Wednesday (Nov. 7). Sophomores Paul Le and Vitalii Baryshok were the Bears' previous honorees on Oct. 24 and Oct. 31, respectively.
Hill helped guide the Bears to a perfect 3-0 record on the road this weekend with convincing wins over conference foes Evansville and Southern Illinois, along with Air Force. Missouri State picked up a 73-point victory at UE, and nearly reached the 100-point margin of victory against the SIU, beating the Salukis 169-71.
On Friday (Nov. 2), the Liberty, Mo. native swam the butterfly leg (52.90) of the Bears' 400 medley B-Relay and secured the 1-2 finish to kick off the meet. In his lone individual event against the Purple Aces, the junior cruised to a win in the 200 fly. The closest competitor finished more than five seconds behind Hill. His time in the 200 fly gives him the fifth fastest time in MAC this season.
Against Southern Illinois and Air Force, Hill teamed up with MSU's Chris Carpenter and Daan Jansen for the 1-2-3 finish in the 200 IM. He swam a season best in the event (1:54.17) and is one of six MSU swimmers in the top eight of the 200 IM on the MAC top times list.
To cap off the meet, Hill and teammate Isaac Springer completed the 1-2 sweep in the 200 breast. The same Missouri State pair continues to hold the top two spots in the MAC rankings.
