CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced Wednesday that Missouri State freshman Vitalii Baryshok has been named MAC Swimmer of the Week. The award is Baryshok's first career weekly honor.
Baryshok was a key component in Missouri State's win over NCAA Division II defending national champion Drury on Friday. The Bears defeated Drury, 169-74, which was one of the largest margins of victory over the Panthers in the storied crosstown rivalry.
The freshman from Lugansk, Ukraine, won both of his individual events including the 50- and 100-yard freestyle, recording times of 21.01 and 45.19, respectively.
Baryshok also registered a 45.32 lead-off split in the 400 free relay that finished first and broke a five-year-old pool record (3:03.98).
His top times in the 50 and 100 freestyle rank first among the Mid-American Conference and his mark in the 100 free is ranked in the top-25 nationally.
The Bears, who are now 2-0 in dual meet competition, return to action Friday, November 4 with a meet against Lindenwood at 5 p.m. at Hammons Student Center.
