MAC Release

CLEVELAND - Missouri State junior diver Garrett Nevels has been named MAC Male Swimmer of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Nevels swept the 1- and 3-meter diving events for the Bears against Division-II power Drury Friday, helping MSU to a 147-96 win at Hammons Student Center.

Nevels broke his own school record in the 1-meter event with 357.67 points, set last season by seven hundredths, and also took down the pool record, which stood for 26 years, by over 18 points. He won the 3-meter event with 358.35 points, pacing the field by over 91 points.

Nevels made the NCAA Zone D cut in both events.

The Swimmer of the Week award is the second of Nevels' career. He also claimed the honor last season on Jan. 16.

Missouri State returns to the pool for a pair of home meets next Friday and Saturday. The Bears host Evansville Friday at 4:30 p.m., followed by Southern Illinois Saturday at 11 a.m.
