Oct. 17, 2012
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Missouri State junior Anna Ahlin has been named Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week, along with Southern Illinois' Pamela Benitez, the league announced Tuesday (Oct. 16). The award is Ahlin's second weekly honor of her career. Last season, the Stockholm, Sweden native was named MVC Swimmer of the Week following the Bears' home dual meet with crosstown rival Drury.
Ahlin kicked off the 2012-13 season with an impressive set of swims at the Show-Me Showdown (Oct. 6) and the Razorback Relays (Oct. 7). In Columbia, Mo., the backstroke/IM specialist started off the Show-Me Showdown by helping guide the Bears' 200 medley relay to second place. Individually, she finished fourth in the 200 IM (2:09.76) and the 100 back (58.60). Her time in the 100 back was just .06 second off of second place.
At University of Arkansas' Razorback Relays, Ahlin improved on her 100 back time from Friday to lead off the 3x100 backstroke relay with a split of 58.40. The Bears finished fourth out of five teams in the field that included Arkansas, North Texas, SMU and Vanderbilt.
Through the first two weeks of competition, Ahlin holds the MVC's top times in the 100 back and 200 IM, and has the second-fastest mark in the 100 free.
