MAC Release

CLEVELAND - The Missouri State men's swimming and diving team has been picked to finish second in the Mid-American Conference preseason coaches poll, the league announced Friday.

The Bears were chosen ahead of Buffalo, Southern Illinois, Miami, Ball State and Evansville. Eastern Michigan was picked to win the MAC title for a 32nd time.

"It's always nice to be recognized and have your program be respected by the other coaches in the conference," Missouri State head coach Dave Collins said. "However, this preseason poll does not reflect the goals that our staff and our student-athletes have set for the season. We look forward to improving as a team each day with our sights set on lots of success at the MAC Championships and then the NCAA Championships."

The Bears finished just six points behind the Eagles in the 2013 MAC Championships in Carbondale, Ill., giving EMU head coach Peter Linn his 21st league championship in 25 seasons at the school.

The MAC Championships are set for March 6-8 in Buffalo, N.Y.

Missouri State opened the season last Saturday at the Show-Me Showdown at Missouri, and finished second to the Tigers. MSU next hosts Drury on Oct. 25 at 6 p.m., at Hammons Student Center.
