Missouri State Men Set for MAC Swimming Championship

CARBONDALE - The Missouri State men's swimming and diving squad is set to compete it its second Mid-American Conference Championship on Mar. 3-5 in Carbondale, Ill.

The Bears finished third in last season's conference meet, their first competition in the MAC. This season, MSU hopes to build upon last season's performance. The Bears will be led by sophomore and all-MAC honoree Daan Jansen. Jansen finished second in the 1650-yard freestyle, fourth in the 400-yard IM and eighth in the 200-yard IM.

To help the Bears make the leap to number one, Steck brought in two outstanding freshmen during the January signing period: Michal Bulak and Yuri Garanito. Bulak will be a contender in both butterfly events and Garanito is the Bears' top backstroker.

The MAC does not release a pre-meet poll, but host school Southern Illinois and defending champion Eastern Michigan are the teams to beat in this season's meet.

The meet will begin Friday morning with the preliminary rounds beginning at 12 p.m. and championship heats beginning at 7 p.m.
