Bears Place Third in Sun Belt Conference Championship
After Saturday's conclusion of the Sun Belt Conference Swimming and Diving Championship, the Missouri State men's team tallied 627 team points and finished third overall. Western Kentucky claimed its third-straight Sun Belt title with 734 points. Denver placed second with 665 points, followed by MSU with 627, Southern Illinois with 598.5, Florida Atlantic with 354, and Evansville finished sixth with 207.5 points.
Senior Seth Johnson had Missouri State's only win on the third day of competition in the 200-yard breaststroke. He won the event in 2:02.61 and set a new Sun Belt Conference championship record. Greg Temple finished second in the event in a final time of 2:03.12.
Victor Serra had a top finish for the Bears in the 200-yard butterfly. He finished second in the race in a time of 1:48.59.
MSU's Ryan Bullock placed third in the 1,650-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 15:35.75, just .15 of a second from second place. Eduardo Pajares also added a third-place finish for Missouri State in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 1:48.54.
Ignacio Gayo swam a time of 45.44 in the 100-yard freestyle to earn fourth-place.
On the three-meter diving board, Ryan Maeker scored a fourth-place finish for the Bears with 293.90 points and teammate Cole Kalkbrenner totaled 255.05 points to place fifth.
The Bears concluded the championship with the 400-yard freestyle relay. The foursome of Serra, Pajares, Andrew McBride, and Gayo swam a time of 3:04.62 and finished fourth.
