Women's Swimming and Diving Ready for Championships in Carbondale
The Missouri State women's swimming and diving squad will take on four other Valley schools at the MVC Championship in Carbondale, Ill. this weekend. The Bears look to continue their recent success in the Valley meet, as this season could be the team's fourth consecutive title and its eighth in nine years.
Earlier this week, conference coaches voted on the favorites for the meet, and Missouri State was a unanimous favorite to win. The Bears also received national accolades as the women were ranked 23rd in the CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major Poll. Missouri State was the highest ranked Valley team in the poll.
Last season, the Bears won the Valley title in historic fashion. Their 275.5 point win margin was the second-highest total school history. In the 2010 meet, a Bear finished either first or second in every event.
This year, swimming is set to begin on Feb. 17 and will continue until Feb. 19. Preliminary rounds will be at 10:00 a.m. every day with the final heats beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
