Bears' Swimming and Diving Squads Earn Top-10 Division I Mid-Major Rankings
In the most recent, pre-conference CSCAA/CollgeSwimming.com Division I Mid-Major Rankings, the Bears’ swimming and diving squads hold top spots with 242.8 points on the men’s side to maintain the teams’ second-place ranking, and 226.5 points for the Bears’ women for a 10th-place ranking.
On the men's side, there were no changes among the top five. Navy captured the top spot and was ranked only three points ahead of the Bears with 245.8 points. Conference rival, Denver, was just behind Missouri State in third with 242.8 points. Oakland, with 233.7 points, and UC-Davis at 233.6, completed the top five, ranking fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Bears’ men travel to Nashville, Tenn. to compete in the Sun Belt Conference Championship, scheduled to begin on Thursday, February 19. The men will compete in the three-day event against Evansville, Denver, Florida Atlantic, Southern Illinois and Western Kentucky. The squad captured its first Sun Belt Conference Championship last year and aim to claim a second-straight title.
The Missouri State women ended the regular season with a 10th-place CSCAA/CollegeSwimming.com Division I Mid-Major Ranking. Last Saturday the Bears’ women claimed the 2009 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship with 944.5 points in Carbondale, Ill. The title was the second-straight for the Bears’ women.
Final rankings for the 2008-09 season will be released in March. The CollegeSwimming.com rankings are based on each team's best dual meet lineup as judged and submitted by participating teams.
