Feb. 12, 2014
ST. LOUIS - The Missouri State women's swimming & diving team has been chosen to repeat as Missouri Valley Conference champion in a pre-championship poll of the conference's head coaches, the league announced Wednesday.
The Bears earned all six first-place votes and 36 points overall as the odds-on favorite to claim their seventh consecutive championship. Championship-host Southern Illinois and Illinois State tied for the second spot in the voting with 27 points, while Evansville (17), Northern Iowa (12) and league-newcomer Arkansas-Little Rock (seven) rounded out the poll.
Missouri State won its sixth straight conference crown by 121 points over SIU last February to pull with two of the Salukis' record 13 overall championships.
MSU boasts swimmers who hold top-three times on the MVC best list in 12 different events this season.
The MVC championships, held at SIU's Shea Natatorium get underway Thursday at 11 a.m., with the first preliminary session, followed by finals at 6 p.m. Fans can view live video and results for the three-day meet at MissouriStateBears.com.
