Geisler and Arkovich Named MVC Swimmer/Diver of the week
Missouri State's Liz Geisler and Stacey Arkovich were named the Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for the week of Jan. 16 - 24, the MVC office announced Wednesday. This is Geisler's third-stratight Valley Swimmer of the Week honor this season.
Geisler of Roselle, Ill., helped guide the Bears to two Missouri Valley victories over the weekend. Geisler won the 100-yard freestyle event in 53.89 at Friday’s dual meet against the Purple Aces of Evansville. Geisler was also the anchor on the first-place 200-yard freestyle relay team that swam the race in 1:42.42.
In Saturday’s dual meet against Southern Illinois, Geisler continued to lower her time in the 1,000-yard freestyle by swimming a first-place time of 10:19.53, improving her MSU varsity record that she set Jan. 14 against Mizzou in 10:22.85. After swimming the 1,000 freestyle, Geisler turned around and won the very next event, the 200-yard freestyle, in 1:54.61. Geisler was also the winner of the 500-yard freestyle, with a time of 5:05.80.
Arkovich of Ames, Iowa, was unbeatable on the diving boards this past weekend and helped lead the Bears’ swimmers and divers to two Missouri Valley Conference wins. In a dual meet against the Purple Aces of Evansville, Arkovich placed first on the one-meter board with 275.85 points and had a first-place win on the three-meter board with 262.35 points. At Saturday’s meet against Southern Illinois University, Arkovich was a double-winner with 263.25 points on the three-meter board and 251.85 points in the one-meter diving competition.
The Bears' swimmers and divers will be back in action Sat., Jan. 28, in Ft. Worth, Texas, when the men's team competes against TCU and the women's team competes against TCU and North Texas beginning at 12 noon.
