Swimming and Diving Ends Regular Season with Wins
Missouri State's swimming and diving teams defeated Lindenwood University, Saint Louis University and Illinois Tech to close out their regular season. The meet served as a final warm up for the Missouri Valley Conference and Mid-American Conference championships. The men's team finishes the season with a dual meet record of 7-2 with invitational victories at Missouri (Oct. 10), Tunica, Miss. (Jan. 8-9) and most recently at Lindenwood University (Jan. 23). The women's team sits at 6-3 with tournament wins at Tunica and Lindenwood.
At Lindenwood, the Bears tested the depth of their squad. This meet was the third in three days for Missouri State, an attempt to simulate the effects of the respective conference tournaments. The athletes responded well, with the women winning 14 of the 17 events. In every event on the women's side, a Missouri State athlete finished either first or second.
The men won seven swimming events and junior Eric Ducourneau swept the honors in diving.
Senior Heather Fulton made a splash in the diving competition. Her score of 314.70 on the three-meter board not only won the event for Missouri State, but also hit the zone "D" qualifying mark. Fulton will now join teammates Chelsea Ray and Ducourneau in the zone "D" championships on March 12-14 at College Station, Texas.
The Bears now begin preparations for their respective conference championships. The women head to Carbondale, Ill. on Feb 11-13 to compete in the MVC championships. The men will get a much longer break, as the MAC championships are being held in Ypsilanti, Mich. on Mar. 4-6.
