Bears Look For First-Ever Season Sweep of Drury Thursday

Missouri State Bears at Drury Panthers
SPRINGFIELD -- The Missouri State swimming & Diving team will take on crosstown rival Drury on the road at Breech Pool on Thursday at 6 p.m., on Mediacom 22.
♦ The Bears are looking for their first men’s and women’s season sweep of the Panthers in the history of the program. MSU defeated Drury, 147-96 (men), and 146-91 (women), for a dual-meet sweep of DU on Oct. 25 at Hammons Student Center Pool.
♦ MSU set three HSC Pool records against the Panthers in October, including two by junior Paul Le in the 200-yard backstroke and 400-yard medley relay backstroke leg. Le swam 48.13 in the medley relay and 1:46.22 in the 200 back.
♦ The third pool record broken versus Drury in the first meet in the season series came from junior diver Garrett Nevels. The Lee’s Summit, Mo., native, who also broke his own school record in the 1-meter springboard event, notched the pool record with a six-dive score of 357.67 points. The previous mark of 357.60 stood for over 26 years. Nevels claimed the 3-meter event with 358.35 points against DU, qualifying for the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships in both events. Nevels was MAC Swimmer of the Week for his performance.
♦ The Bears received 11 individual event victories in topping the Panthers and won 17 of 26 races overall for the sweep.
♦ Aside from the two victories apiece from Le and Nevels, the Bears used multiple wins from sophomore Dora Kiss in the 200 (1:53.97) and 500 free (5:0366) as well as the 200 butterfly (2:05.78). Sophomore Miguel Davila won both the men’s 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle events in 4:36.74 and 9:24.81, respectively.
