Swimming Bears Pick Up Three Wins at Lindenwood
The Missouri State swimming and diving teams picked up three dual wins at the Lindenwood Duals. There were four teams at the meet and because of the triple dual setting, each team was scored against the other. The men's 187 points and the women's 201 points were both good enough for first place in their respective meets.
The Bears were strong from the start, with first-place finishes in the first five events. The women's team led off with a dominating performance in the 400-yard medley relay, winning the event by ten seconds. Sophomore Amber Green built off of her impressive performance at Drury on Jan. 20 with two wins in the first five. She swam the butterfly leg of the 400-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:51.83. Later in the meet, she won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.51 and led off the 400-yard freestyle relay that came in at 3:38.02 (Green's split was 52.02).
The men's team turned in great times as well. Freshman Jared Roberts touched the wall at 16:16.64 in the 1650-yard freestyle, ten seconds better than his previous personal best. Fellow freshman Mihael Bulak won the 200-yard butterfly at 1:52.95, the fifth-fastest time in the MAC this season. The men's backstroke group continued to impress, winning both the 100- and 200-yard backstroke events. Freshman Yuri Garanito won the 100-yard event with a time of 51.97 and sophomore Aaron Henry won the 200-yard event with his time of 1:54.53.
With these three wins, both the men and women are 6-3 on the season. Next up for Missouri State is the final weekend of the regular season on Jan. 28-29. On Jan. 28, the Bears will take on conference foe Evansville in Evansville, Ind. On the trip back, Missouri State will stop off in Charleston, Ill. for a meet against Eastern Illinois. The Evansville meet will begin at 4:00 p.m. and the Eastern Illinois meet will start at 2:00 p.m.
