Bears Head Truman State for Swimming & Diving Dual Saturday
Jan. 17, 2014
Missouri State Bears at Truman State Bulldogs
The Bears men come into action with a 5-1 mark in duals this season with their only loss coming to No. 14 Missouri at Hammons Student Center Pool on Nov. 8. The women are 5-2, falling to the Tigers and No. 15 Arkansas Nov. 9 at home.
Missouri State is unbeaten all-time in 26 meets against Truman State dating back to the 1979-80 season. Last year, MSU topped the Bulldogs Jan. 19 in Springfield, 160-72, with the help of winning every event except the 1,000-meter freestyle on the senior day. Caleb Schuermann, Uvis Kalnins, Colin Hill, Isaac Springer, Garrett Nevels, Vitalii Baryshok and Paul Le all earned victories.
The Bears are 9-9 against the Truman State women, who come into action ranked tied for 21st in the national poll. Missouri State has won the last four duals in the series, which dates to the inception of the women's program at MSU in 1998-99. MSU defeated the seven-time Division II national champions, 155-78, last season. The Bears swept all 11 individual events on the day with Carly Wright, Kate Gately and Ibby Simcox each securing wins the 1,000 free, 50 free and 200 fly, respectively. Anna Ahlin also had a win in the 200 back and Renata Sander, Dora Kiss and diver Lindsey Conway also claimed events in the victory.
Following the Truman State meet, The Bears pay a visit to top-ranked Drury Thursday to attempt a season-series sweep of the Panthers. Action at Breech Pool is set to get underway at 6 p.m., and will be televised by Mediacom 22 on a tape-delay basis.
