KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Missouri State swimming & diving team competed in its first meet of the second semester with a road trip to Truman State Saturday afternoon. The Bears improved their season dual meet records to 5-1, as the women handily defeated the in-state Bulldogs 135-68 and the men followed suit with a 136-57 victory.

"We went in to today's meet looking to get some racing in after a very good couple weeks of winter training," said interim head coach Dave Collins. "Although the times were not impressive, I was pleased with the effort of both squads. I feel we have put ourselves in a great position to swim well in February and March."

One of the highlights of the afternoon came in back-to-back events where the women secured the top three spots in the 200 fly and 100 free. Marta Nogueroles, Roni Balzam and Katie Brown made up the top-three in the 200 fly, while Andrea Uzcategui, Brianna Willoughby and Melissa Oisihi claimed the top spots in 100 free.

Also collecting wins for Missouri State were Suzanne Van Rensburg in the 1000 free, Anna Ahlin in the 200 IM and 200 back, and Renata Sander in the 200 breast.

In men's action, the Bears swept the meet, claiming the top two places in each event except for the 1000 free.

Individual winners in men's actions included Caleb Schuermann (100 free), Isaac McKnight (50 free), Matthew Wilson (200 fly), Yuri Garanito (200 back) and Chris Carpenter (500 free). Both Colin Hill and Paul Le took home two first-place finishes for the Bears.

As for the relays, Missouri State showed its depth, going 1-2 in both the 200 medley and 200 free relay.

The Bears return to Springfield for their next dual meet at Drury for the second of two matchups between the crosstown rivals. The meet is set for Thursday, January 19 at 5 p.m.
