At Missouri State: Voelkel will enter her senior year as one of the top distance swimmers for the Bears...2009-10: In her junior year, Voelkel was a swimmer who seemed to get faster the longer the race went. She finished in the top five in all distance freestyle events. Her time of 17:28.94 in the 1650-yard freestyle at the MVC Championship was the second-fastest time all season. Additionally, her time of 10:27.62 in the 1000-yard freestyle was third-fastest all season, and fifth-fastest time in MSU history.2008-09:Voelkel made the top-five in the 500-yard Freestyle (5:03.35)and 1650-yard Freestyle (17:46.57)...set a season best in the 200-yard Butterfly (2:09.30)at the MissouriValley Championship,finishingeighth overall in teh event...2007-08: In her first year at Missouri State, Voelkel was a strong swimmer for the Bears. As a freshman, she excelled in the pool as well as in the classroom and was awarded All-MVC First Team honors and was a MVC Scholar-Athlete. Voelkel's top individual finish at the conference meet came in the 1650 free in which she placed second. She was third in the 500 free and eighth in the 200 fly. Background: Katharina Voelkel joined Missouri State after representing Germany in international competitions. Voelkel swam for AMTV-FTV Hamburg swimming club for four years throughout high school. She led the AMTV-FTV club to two second-place finishes in the national league. In 2006, she finished second in the 1500 free and third in the 800 free at the Northern Germany Championship. Voelkel competed in the European open water swimming cup in 2006 where she finished 11th in the 5000 free and 15th in the 10000 freestyle. Personal: Full name is Katharina Voelkel.
