At Missouri State: Indira Villarroel enters her third season with the Bears and is expected to continue to improve in backstroke and sprint freestyle events. 2007-08: As a sophomore, Villarroel recorded three personal best times at the Missouri Valley Conference meet. Her top finish came in the 100 backstroke, where she placed sixth with a time of 59.28. Villarroel also finished 10th in the 50 free and 12th in the 200 back. She was named to the MSU Academic Honor Roll for her accomplishments in the classroom. 2006-07: Villarroel continued to improve her times and competed in the butterfly and backstroke events for the Bears during her freshman season. Background: Villarroel became a Bear after having participated in the 2000 and 2002 South American Games in Brazil. In 1999, Villarroel placed sixth in the 100 backstroke at the Central American Games. She also participated in the 2005 Central American Games where she placed eighth in the 50 backstroke and ninth in the 100 backstroke. Personal: Full name is Indira Carolina Villarroel. Born June 9, 1987, in Caracas, Venezuela. Daughter of Nicolás and Olivia Villarroel. Indira's brother, Nicolás also swims for the Bears on the men's side.
