2014-15 Season (Junior): NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships qualifier for the second-consecutive season … Named to the All-Mid-American Conference First Team, selected as MAC Swimmer of the Week twice and broke three individual school records over course of season … Opened NCAA meet in Iowa City with 23rd-place showing in 200 IM (1:44.47) … Finish was just 0.79 seconds behind 16th place for All-American honorable mention status … Result was 12 slots higher than previous appearance in 2013-14 … Broke his own school record in the 400 IM (3:45.00) to place 21st overall and was 0.84 seconds for a spot in the finals … Also gained 17 spots from his seed time by finishing 41st in the 100 freestyle prelims in a season-best time (43.87) … Earned two conference titles at the MAC Championships … Broke school and conference records in gold-medal performance in the 200 IM (1:44.03) … Defended previous title in 400 IM with a then-school record 3:46.00, while also topping pool and MAC times in the event … Member of three relay squads at MAC meet that broke school records in the 200 medley relay (1:26.79), 800 freestyle relay (6:28.05) and the 400 medley relay (3:10.56) … Swam three ‘B’ cut times at the Louisville Invitational (Nov. 21-23) while finishing first in the 200 IM, second in the 400 IM and third in the 100 free among all competitors … Took over Kansas’ Robinson Natatorium records in a neutral-site dual versus Denver in the 200 IM and 400 IM, as well as a member of the 200 free relay … Finished with fastest times and event victories in the 200 breaststroke at Southern Illinois (Oct. 11), 100 free versus Drury (Oct. 16), 400 IM at Missouri (Oct. 31) and 400 IM at the Shamrock Invitational (Jan. 31) … Also broke pool records at Drury and Missouri S&T in the 200 IM and 200 backstroke, respectively … Also earned runner-up finishes in the 200 freestyle against Denver and 100 free at Missouri … Earned Swimmer of the Week honors following performances vs. Denver (Oct. 27) and Missouri (Nov. 3) … Ended season with top-five times in seven events for the Bears, while also including six school records combined.

All-MAC, Academic All-MAC and College Swimming Coaches Association of America Men's Individual Scholar All-America First Team honors ... Broke two school records at the NCAA championships ... Swam school-record 43.47 in the 100 free and finished 29th, 18 spots higher than set to finish ... Also placed 24th in the 400 IM and 35th in the 200 IM ... Broke a combined 11 school, pool and meet records as individual or member of relay team at the MAC championships ... Broke school, pool and MAC championship records in the 400 IM (3:47.38) and the 400 medley relay (3:10.95) ... Individual crowns include two 200 free titles at the Shamrock Invitational and Oklahoma Splash Bash, 100 free and 200 IM first-place finishes at Southern Illinois and three honors in a dual at Colorado Mesa ... 2012-13 (Freshman): Earned All-MAC First Team distinction in his first season with the Bears ... Ranked in the nation's top 100 in the 500 free (97th); also ranked in the top 200 in the 200 free (110th) and 100 free (161st) ... Achieved NCAA `B' cuts in both the 200 and 500 free ... Recorded three top-five finishes in his individual events at the 2013 MAC Championships...Set a new MSU varsity record in the 500 free with a prelims time of 4:23.28; was top seed heading into finals; finished fourth overall in Thursday's 500 free A-Final ... Raced to another top seed after the 200 free prelims on Day 2; dropped time in finals for a career best (1:36.82) and was MSU's highest finisher with fourth place ... Dropped an entire second off previous top time in 100 free prelims (44.46); captured first individual medal with a runner-up finish (44.68) behind Buffalo senior Matt Hogan ... Was a key contributor on the Bears' conference relays; anchored the 800 free relay and helped MSU capture its first relay win since 2010; had the second fastest relay split (19.63) of any team in the Bears' second-place 200 free relay; added another sub-20 second split (19.88) anchoring the runner-up 200 medley relay; split 43.79 to anchor the 400 free relay on the final day ... Finished the season on the Bears' all-time top-five list in the 100 free (5th), 200 free (3rd) and 500 free (1st).
London 2012 Summer Olympics: Learned of his Olympic bid on July 9, 2012 ... Was one of 46 athletes on the Latvian Olympic squad participating in 12 different sports ... Only male swimmer on the Latvian Olympic team ... Became the third MSU male swimmer to compete at the Olympics ... Turned in a 100-meter freestyle personal best (49.96) on Day 4 of the swimming prelims at the Aquatics Centre in Olympic Park; broke the 50-second barrier for the first time in his career; finished 30th out of 56 participants; less than a second away from a top-16 finish and a spot in the semifinals; was the youngest athlete to finish in the top 30.
