At Missouri State: Entering her senior year, Smith has emerged as a team leader and was voted a team captain by her teammates.
2009-10: As a junior, Smith's grit and determination paid off as she set new personal bests in every event in which she competed. Most notably, her time of 17:32.79 in the 1650-yard freestyle in the MVC Championship was the third-best time from a MSU
swimmer all season....2008-09: In her sophomore campaign, Smith set new personal recordsinevery event she competed in: 500 Freestyle (5:17.39), 1650 Freestyle (18:02.86) and 400 Individual Medley (4:39.53)...2007-08: In her freshman season, Smith competed in three individual events for the Bears at the Valley meet. Her top finish came in the 1650 free in which she finished 11th. She also finished 12th and 18th in the 400 IM and 500 free, respectively. Smith was listed on the MSU Academic Honor Roll for her performance in the classroom. Background: Rene Smith joined Missouri State after three years of swimming with Shawnee Mission West in Overland Park, Kan. Smith earned a spot on the Missouri Valley Swimming All-Academic Team and was a USA Swimming Scholastic All-american pick her junior year. Her junior year, Smith placed 12th at the Kansas state competition in the 500 free and led her team to a ninth-place finish overall. Personal: Full name is Rene Michelle Smith.
