At Missouri State: Peterson enters her senior year with a wealth of experience at the MVC Championships and will once again provide depth in the freestyle and butterfly events.
2010-11: As a junior, Peterson registered top-five times among MSU swimmers in the 200 free, 1000 free, 1650 free and 200 fly. She set personal bests in the 100 fly at Drury and the 200 free and 200 fly at the MVC Championships. At the conference meet, Peterson finished in the top-16 in all three of her individual events: 200 free (9th), 200 fly (10th) and 1650 free (13th). For her work both in the classroom and in the pool, she was named to teh 2010-11 MVC Scholar-Athlete team.
2009-10: Peterson swam sprint free, distance free and butterfly events for the Bears as a sophomore. Her times of 1:55.76 in the 200 free (4th), 18:38.31 in the 1,650 free (5th) and 2:10.86 for the 200 fly (5th) all rank in the seasons top five times. She was also named a 2009-10 MVC Scholar-Athlete at the end of the season.
2008-09: Peterson swam in multiple events as a freshman. She set a personal best and fourth best on the team in the 200 free at the MVC Championships (1:55.57).
Background: Peterson became a Bear after swimming four years for Mount St. Mary's Academy in Little Rock, Ark. Peterson was a four-time all-state and all-region selection. Her senior year, she was named women's Swimmer of the Year by her teammates, leading her high school to a state championship. Peterson was also a member of the scholar-athlete squad as a senior.
Personal: Laura Renee Peterson is the daughter of Greg and Leta Peterson. She was born on November 7, 1989 in Tulsa, Okla. Her father, Greg, was a swimmer at Millikin University. She is majoring in political science.
