2012-13: Named MSU Male Diver of the Year for the second straight season...Set new school records on both 1- and 3-meter during the 2012-13 campaign...At the NCAA Zone `D' Diving Championships for the second time in as many years; posted a two-round total of 628.50 points on 1-meter to finish 12th out 31 divers; added another top-15 finish in 3-meter with a score of 642.90 and 15th place...Qualified for the A-Final in the 1- and 3-meter diving events at the 2013 MAC Championships; started off the meet with a bronze medal on 1-meter (333.85); had a record-breaking performance in the 3-meter competition with a new MSU record and the third-best prelims score (378.60); dropped to seventh overall in finals (313.70)...Against then-No. 20 Penn State, Nevels won the 1-meter competition and set a new MSU standard in the event with a score of 357.60...Earned MAC Athlete of the Week laurels for first time in career after performance against the ranked Nittany Lion squad...Had seven first-place finishes during the dual-meet season; runner-up finish on 1- and 3-meter at UIW Christmas Invitational.
2011-12: Recipient of the MSU Male Diver of the Year award...Competed in the NCAA Zone 'D' Diving Championships in Iowa City, Iowa; Finished 22nd out of 31 competitors in the 3-meter competition; On the second day, he advanced past the preliminary round and made the top-18; Had a composite score of 575.20 and finished 15th overall...At the 2012 MAC Championships, he was less than two points away from qualifying for the A-Final on 1-meter; placed 11th overall...To close out the conference championships, he scored a season-best 329.40 points on 3-meter and finished seventh overall...Won on 1-meter at six dual meets...Took home first place in 3-meter diving at four separate duals...Placed first out of nine competitors in the 1-meter diving competition at the UIW Christmas Invitational...Was No. 1 on the season's top performers list for both the 1- and 3-meter diving.
Background: Lettered all four years at Lee's Summit (Mo.) High School...Coached by diving great Tom Hairabedian, who competed in more than 50 U.S. Masters National Championships and three FINA Masters World Championships...Earned all-state honors twice and is a four-time all-Big 7 Conference selection...Achieved highest finish at Missouri state championships with a silver medal (427.90 points)...Scored 13 points for Lee's Summit as a junior with sixth-place finish at state (378.10)...One of four underclassmen to compete in the MSHSAA Diving Championship finals as a sophomore; finished 10th (352.60)...Lettered in track & field his senior year, competing in the pole vault.
