2012-13: Joins senior Brittany Winter as a team captain for the women's swimming & diving team.

2011-12: Earned all-MVC first team honors for the second year in-a-row...Received the MSU Darin Kent Spirit Award, along with Michal Bulak...Was one of six MSU swimmers in the A-Final of the 200 IM at the 2012 MVC Championships; finished sixth in the event...Medaled in the 100 breast at conference with a third-place performance...Earned a silver medal in the 200 breast and completed the 1-2 sweep at the MVC Championships with teammate Renata Sander...During the dual-meet season, she captured wins in the 100 free vs. Truman State, 100 breast at Drury, 200 IM vs. Evansville and 400 IM vs. Lindenwood...Finished just behind Sander in the 100 breast at the UIW Christmas Invitational for the 1-2 finish; also swam in the A-Final of the 200 breast and picked up fourth-place points...Named MVC Swimmer of the Week for the second time following the TYR Invitational; placed fifth out of 61 competitors in the 200 IM and broke the school record in the 200 breast; the 200 breast time was just .09 seconds off the NCAA 'B' cut...Earned first MVC Swimmer of the Week honor on Nov. 8 after home duals against Lindenwood and Truman State...Finished on the season's top times list in three events including the 100 breast (2nd), 200 breast (2nd) and 200 IM (4th).

2010-11: Named to the all-MVC first team during her first season with the Bears...Made a splash in the breaststroke and IM events at the 2011 MVC Championships; earned a bronze medal in the 200 breast (2:20.61); also cracked the top-eight in the 200 IM (2:07.34) and 100 breast (1:05.67) with fifth-place finishes in both events...Ranked second among MSU swimmers in the 100 and 200 breast; also ranked among the season's top times list in the 200 IM (4th).

2009-10: Competed her freshman year at University of New Orleans...Coached by former MSU swimmer and associate head coach Randy Horner...Rewrote the record books in the 100 breast (1:04.52) and 200 breast (2:20.21) at New Orleans...Named the women's swimming MVP and Freshman of the Year

Background: Swam club for the West Seattle YMCA swim team, coached by Rod Rombauer...Placed third in the 200 IM (2:10.30) and second in the 100 breast (1:05.77) at the 2007 Washington State Championships; the following season, she finished 11th at state in the 200 IM and fifth in the 100 breast...Was an all-state selection during her junior and senior seasons...Named an All-American in the 100 breast and 200 medley relay...Chose New Orleans over Rutgers, San Diego State and UMBC.

Personal: Melissa Alice Oishi is the daughter of Dennis and Kristi Oishi. She was born on November 13, 1990 in Seattle, Wash. She has three sisters: Tiffany, Sarah and Jennifer. She is majoring in dietetics.
