At Missouri State: Ignacio Gayo was named to the 2007 All-SBC first team after placing fourth in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 back at the conference championships. Gayo was awarded to the MSU Academic Honor Roll. 2005-06: Gayo was named to the All-MVC team for the second straight year as he recorded seven top five finishes at the Valley Invitational, including three gold medals. Gayo was the league champion in the 50 free in a time of 20.57 which ranks second in MSU history. He served as the anchor for the first-place 200 free relay and 400 medley relay. 2004-05: Gayo made an immediate impact for the Bears as a freshman, taking second in the 100 free, second in the 100 fly and fifth in the 50 free at the 2005 MVC Invitational. He was also a member of the first-place 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay. Gayo was the third leg of the 200 medley relay which placed second at the MVC Invitational. He was awarded MVC all-conference honors. Background: Gayo was the runner-up in the 50-meter long course in Spain's National meet his junior year of high school with a time of 24.50. That same year he took sixth in the nation in the 100-meter (54.20). Personal: Full name is Ignacio Gayo. Born March 15, 1985, in Madrid, Spain. Son of Jose Juan Gayo and Immaculada Piriz.
