It marks the fifth time that the University has hosted an NCAA Division I regional host in Springfield, Mo. The Bears hosted in 1984, 1990, 1994 and most recently, 2009. In addition, Missouri State held the 1974 and 1976 NCAA Division II national championships. As one of nine NCAA Division I regional sites, Springfield will welcome programs from 10 conferences including the Atlantic 10, Big 12, BIG East, Big Ten, Conference USA, Great West, Horizon League, Mid-American, Missouri Valley, Ohio Valley and Summit League. Those 10 conferences span across nine different states (Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and South Dakota). The nine regional sites also serve as the first round of the NCAA National Championships with the top two teams and top four individuals not on an advancing team moving on to nationals. Additional teams and individuals are chosen through an at-large selection process following the regional competition.
