Bears Lead Purple Aces, 36-34, at the Intermission in Evansville
Jermaine Mallett has 14 points at the intermission to lead Missouri State to a 36-34 halftime lead over Evansville at Roberts Stadium in Evansville, Ind. The Bears fell behind 5-0 out of the gates before Will Creekmore scored the first basket for the Bears nearly two minutes into the game. After Evansville went up 7-2, Mallett took over, scoring the next nine points for Missouri State to give his team an 11-8 lead at the 13:14 mark. Evansville responded with an 8-0 run to lead 16-11 before the Bears used the three-pointer to rally later in the period. Treys by Kyle Weems, Adam Leonard and Jerome Jones pushed Missouri State ahead 22-20 with 7:16 to go. Later, back-to-back threes by Leonard and Mallett in the final 90 seconds gave the Bears a 34-30 advantage. However, UE got a bucket by Troy Taylor and an offensive put-back by James Haarsma to tie the game again before a tip-in by Isaiah Rhine just before intermission gave the Bears a slight 36-34 advantage. MSU shot 53.6 percent in the first half on 15-of-28 from the field and was 6-for-11 (.545) from beyond the arc. MSU was awarded just two free throws and missed them both. Evansville was led by Denver Holmes who scored 11 points, while the team made 48.3 (14-of-29) from the field and was 1-for-2 beyond the arc. The Aces made 5-of-7 charity shots (.714) and outrebounded the Bears 16-14. |
