St. LOUIS -- The Missouri Valley Conference announced Friday (Oct. 5) the lineup for its 36-telecast, in-house television package on FOX Sports Midwest in 2012-13.
The Missouri State basketball Bears will appear three times during the 2012-13 academic year and the Lady Bears will appear once, with additional opportunities for both during Wildcard Weekend March 2-3, to be announced Feb. 8, as well as during MVC Tournament telecasts for seven sports.
The Valley, with Niles Media Group of Kansas City serving as its production company, has worked in conjunction with FOX Sports Midwest -- along with its sister regional cable outlets FOX Sports Indiana and FOX Sports Kansas City -- and Comcast SportsNet Chicago to clear all basketball and Olympic sport telecasts. FOX College Sports will also distribute all basketball and Olympic sport championship telecasts on a national basis.
The MSU men’s basketball portion of the package includes a home game against Indiana State (Feb. 12, 7 p.m.) and road games at Creighton (Jan. 30, 7 p.m.) and Wichita State (Feb. 9, 6:30 p.m.).
The Lady Bears’ Jan. 21 home game against Creighton will be televised live at 7 p.m.
“It’s hard to believe that it’s been 20 years since the league made the decision to bring its television network in-house, but it was the right move,” Valley Commissioner Doug Elgin said. “The MVC TV Network, thanks to partners like FOX Sports, FOX College Sports and Comcast SportsNet Chicago, remains our most visible marketing and promotional tool for our programs, coaches and student-athletes.”
MSU’s involvement with the MVC/Fox Sports package also includes the championship match of the 2012 MVC Volleyball Championship from Hammons Student Center in Springfield (Nov. 24), the first three rounds of the men’s basketball championship in St. Louis (March 7-9), the semifinals and finals of the women’s basketball tournament in St. Charles, Mo. (March 16-17), and title games of the women’s soccer (Nov. 4), men’s soccer (Nov. 11), softball (May 11) and baseball (May 25) tournaments in various league cities.
The finalization of MVC’s television schedule will permit The Valley’s 10 members to begin finalizing institutional television packages later this month.
MSU enters its third season partnering with KY3, Inc., of Springfield as the official institutional television partner of the Bears and Lady Bears. This year’s package will feature nine men’s games and eight women’s games. Bears TV on KY3 is underwritten by Bass Pro Shops, Chevy Dealers of the Ozarks, Mercy St. John’s and Great Southern Bank.
