SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State University has added an alumnus to its development office this week with the addition of 1994 MSU graduate Kevin Greim to the position of Senior Director of Athletics Development.
According to Missouri State Vice President for University Advancement Brent Dunn, Greim will be working on scholarship gifts, capital gifts and major athletics gifts as well as overseeing all BearsFund operations.
"It's good to have an alum who can not only represent the University, but also to represent athletics to our supporters and potential donors," said Dunn. "We need to grow private support in athletics, and he'll be overseeing those efforts from day one."
Greim has been a long-standing member of the Missouri Southern State University staff, spending the last 13 years at the Joplin school, most recently as major gifts officer. Prior to making the transition to the Missouri Southern foundation in April 2012, Greim was named associate director of athletics for external operations in 2011. He was named assistant athletics director for external operations in the fall of 2008 after beginning his tenure at Missouri Southern in 1999 as director of marketing.
"We are very happy to have Kevin joining our staff at Missouri State," said Director of Athletics Kyle Moats, whose staff will collaborate with Greim on numerous projects. "He is a highly-respected professional, he's very familiar with Springfield and the Ozarks, and we're anxious for him to get started."
Greim, who earned his undergraduate degree in electronic media from MSU, says the opportunity to return to his alma mater is very special to him.
"I am honored and proud to come back to Springfield and to work at my alma mater," he said. "Not many people get the chance to work for the institution that helped shape them. I had a fantastic experience here as a student, and it is certainly my goal to help enhance the experience of our student-athletes through our fundraising efforts. My family and I are very much looking forward to becoming part of the Missouri State family again."
During his time at Missouri Southern, Greim managed the marketing, sales, and radio activities for the athletics department, served as the radio voice of the Lions, and also supervised the sports of baseball and golf. He developed and co-chaired SouthernFest, a two-day fundraising event for MSSU athletics, and worked with the department's annual fund campaign. Greim was also the primary contact for the exhibition fundraiser basketball games with the Missouri State last November in Joplin.
He also served as head coach of the MSSU men's golf team from 2004 until 2010. In his six years as head coach, the Lions qualified for NCAA Super Regional play five times, and his 2009-10 Lions team tied for second place in the MIAA conference tournament.
The native of Excelsior Springs, Mo., earned his master's degree in health, physical education and recreation from Delta State (Miss.) University, where he worked as the football, basketball and baseball voice of the Statesmen. He also hosted the DSU Sports Show and maintained advertising sales for both radio and television. His broadcasting career has also taken him to Jackson, Miss., where he was as a sports announcer for WSLI radio.
Greim and his wife, Sarah, have two children, Tegan (3) and Miles (2).
