Titles in Swimming & Baseball Propel MSU to Fourth Place in MVC All-Sports Race
Behind Missouri Valley Conference championships in baseball and women's swimming and diving, Missouri State finished fourth in the annual MVC All-Sports Award standings, the 10-member league announced Tuesday. In its 13 league-sponsored sports, Missouri State accumulated an average finish of 4.35, which ranked just behind Wichita State (3.50), Illinois State (3.56), and Southern Illinois (3.81). Northern Iowa (4.75) was fifth. It marked Missouri State's 16th MVC All-Sports Award top-four finish in 18 years and MSU's best finish in three years. Missouri State's other top league finishes this season, included a second-place finish in women's cross country, third-place showings in indoor track and men's soccer, and fourth-place finishes in outdoor track, volleyball, women's soccer (tie), and men's golf. The Missouri State women's volleyball team won the MVC Tournament title and earned a berth in the 2008 NCAA Tournament. Missouri State won the MVC All-Sports Award in 1999-2000, 2001-02 and 2002-03 and finished second five other years.
