ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Missouri State University spirit squads have completed another successful run at the 2013 UCA/UDA Nationals, held at Disney's Wide World of Sports and Disney Hollywood Studios, Jan. 19-20.

The MSU Cheerleaders finished fifth in the Universal Cheerleaders Association Division 1 finals on Jan. 19. It marked the squad's eighth consecutive top-five national finish.

Morehead State successfully defended its Division 1 cheer title, followed by Delaware, Cal State Sacramento, Wichita State and Missouri State.

At the Universal Dance Association Nationals, the Sugar Bears dance team finished ninth in the Division 1 jazz competition on Jan. 19 and took seventh in the Division 1 hip hop competition on Jan. 20.

The Sugar Bears have now placed in the top 10 at the national jazz finals four straight years. In the hip hop competition, the Sugar Bears posted their fifth straight national top 10 finish.

"The Sugar Bears and MSU Cheerleaders did a fantastic job representing Missouri State University at nationals," said MSU spirit squads coordinator Susan Brown. "They finished strong in fields of amazing talent, and I am very proud of them."

Both the Sugar Bears, coached by Brown, and the MSU Cheer Squad, coached by Tim Williams, earned partially-paid trips to the national event based on their pre-national rankings.

The showcase of the country's best college cheerleaders, dance team performers and mascots, is in its 29th year.
